With reference to the Circular despatches noted in the margin,
"An Act to
14 June, 15. I have the honour to transmit to you the accompanying copy of
Act of 1918.
amend the British Nationality and Status of Aliens Act, 1914," 8 and 9 Geo. 5,
Cap. 38. This Act modifies and amends in many important particulars the
British Nationality and Status of Aliens Act, 1914, and I think it desirable
to explain how Colonies not possessing responsible government are affected
by the chief alterations and amendments which are now made in the Act of 1914.
I also enclose a reprint of the latter Act with the 1918 amendments inserted, as
authorized by section 4 (3) of the new Act.

You will of course realize that the power introduced by the new Act
to revoke certificates of naturalization extends only to certificates of Imperial
naturalization, and cannot be applied to local certificates of naturalization
which may have been granted in the Colonies under any local enactment. Where
legislation of this kind exists in any of the Colonies and it is desired to take
power of revocation with regard to local certificates similar to that conferred by
the enclosed Act, local legislation should be introduced on the lines of the new
Imperial Act.
3. It will be observed that section 2 (4) of the new Act read with section 8 (1)
of the Principal Act confers upon you, subject in each case to the approval of
the Secretary of State, the power of revocation of certificates of naturalization
provided by section 7 of the Principal Act, as replaced by section 1 of the new
Act.
With regard to the provisions of section 7 generally, you will observe
that you are empowered in certain cases to make an Order of revocation without
any enquiry by a Committee or a Superior Court under subsection (4), but that
